Do you work in a stressful job? Are you managing a lot of responsibilities at the same time? Is the daily treadmill of life moving too fast? How is your quality of life? Is it time to reduce your stress and relax?
Stress
Stress causes a numerous amount of issues for your body. High blood pressure, headaches, muscle tension, ulcers, and weakened immune system are just a few of the many health issues stress can trigger. Relaxation helps counteract these effects by giving your body a chance to calm down!
Benefits of relaxing

- Slowing heart rate
- Lowering blood pressure
- Improving sleep quality
- Slowing your breathing rate
- Improving digestion
- Maintaining normal blood sugar levels
- Reducing activity of stress hormones
- Increasing blood flow to major muscles
- Reducing muscle tension and chronic pain
- Improving concentration and mood
- Lowering fatigue
- Reducing anger and frustration
- Boosting confidence to handle problems
What is a Swedish Massage?
Swedish or relaxation massage is a technique that uses smooth gliding strokes to promote relaxation, improve circulation, increase range of motion and relieve muscle tension in the superficial soft tissues.
As the best-known type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation.
Swedish massage is the most commonly offered massage technique, utilizing a firm or lighter pressure on the muscles. It will involve long yet gliding strokes. … Deep tissue massage is a specific type of massage that targets deeper structures of muscles and fascia, which is more commonly known as connective tissue.
Swedish massage therapy is the most well-known and widely practiced type of therapeutic massage—and for a good reason. This type of massage focuses on muscle relaxation, targeting superficial muscles (rather than the connective tissues targeted in deep-tissue massage) and increasing blood circulation.
Here are some of the benefits of a Swedish massage:
- Pain management
- Increased blood flow
- Rehabilitation for muscle injuries
- Increased flexibility
- Reduced stress
- Eliminating tension headaches
- Giving you more energy
- Better night’s sleep
- Improved immune system
Why is it called “Swedish” massage?
A Swedish physiologist, Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839) at the University of Stockholm pioneered the Swedish massage and physical therapy.
In the early 19th century Per Henrik Ling developed a system called “Medical Gymnastics” which included movements performed by a therapist. These became known as “Swedish movements” in Europe and “the Swedish Movement Cure” when they came to the U.S. in 1858. Today it is simply known as Swedish massage.
Swedish massage is the foundation for other types of Western massage, including sports massage, deep tissue massage, hot stone massage, neuromuscular, and aromatherapy massage.
